Gary Batton Honored by National FFA Organization
Published September 16, 2025DURANT, Okla. – Choctaw Nation Chief Gary Batton was selected to receive the Honorary American FFA Degree, it was announced recently.
The Honorary American FFA Degree is an opportunity to recognize those who have gone beyond valuable daily contributions to make an extraordinary long-term difference in the lives of students, inspiring confidence in a new generation of agriculturists. Members of the National FFA Organization’s board of directors approved the nomination.
“This degree is an exceptional honor for me,” Chief Batton said. “Growing up in Clayton, Okla., agriculture was a big part of my life. When I entered high school and won my FFA chapter’s presidency, it was the thrill of a lifetime. Lessons learned from my time in the FFA are still with me today. I am honored and encourage our youth to get involved with the FFA.”
Batton will receive the award during the 98th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025. All recipients will receive a plaque and medal, and their names will be permanently recorded as recipients of the highest FFA honor.
Future Farmers of America was founded by a group of young farmers in 1928. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges to feed a growing population, with the adage that “agriculture is more than planting and harvesting – it’s a science, it’s a business and it’s an art.”
