College Freshman Year Initiative

Camp Chahta

Designed to orient incoming freshmen with college life and create a close-knit community of Choctaw students.


  • Must be a Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma tribal member
  • First year enrolled student at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Durant), Carl Albert State College (Poteau), or Eastern Oklahoma State College (Wilburton)

Additional Information

College Counselors work with students on financial aid, enrollment and possible resources for making their educational experience successful. College Counselors will review degree plans and verify course enrollments.

Through the College Freshman Year Initiative, students will continue to receive support. Weekly visits with their Counselor keep students accountable for their grades and attendance. Workshops in time management, study skills and financial literacy help them plan and be prepared for educational success.
