Each Fourth of July on the Choctaw reservation is a celebration to commemorate not only the United States Independence but also the Choctaw Nation as a free and sovereign tribe that stands on its own and forges a successful future.

Choctaw has always been a supporter of our country and its military, so we also honor our freedom on the Fourth of July that is afforded to us by our brave soldiers who keep this country safe. The video above shows Assistant Chief signing a document that enforces support of our Associates who are in the military reserve.

Each year we celebrate our history and home with a big fireworks demonstration at various properties within the Choctaw reservation. Our large display at the Choctaw Capitol in Tvshka Homma will kick off our celebrations on Thursday, July 3. The gates open at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks begin at dusk. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of family fun. Food vendors will be available.

As always, the Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant will hold its annual free fireworks show. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Self-parking is free with fireworks set to begin at dusk. Check out choctawcasinos.com for more information on the Fourth of July events planned at each location.

Whether you come to Choctaw or set off fireworks at home, if consumer fireworks are legal to buy where you live and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips outlined by the National Safety Council.

The best bet is to attend public displays conducted by professionals to ensure you and your friends and family’s safety. Most of all, get outside with your family this Fourth of July and enjoy all the Choctaw Nation has to offer.

Yakoke and God Bless!
