Halito,

The new year is well on its way, and with it comes new opportunities to make a positive impact on others, especially our young people.

This month marks the 20th annual National Mentoring Month, which is aimed at how we can all work together to increase the number of mentors to make sure that young people have dependable adults to look up to and follow in their footsteps.

Research has shown that relationships with caring mentors offers youth valuable encouragement, and the Choctaw Nation’s Internship program has been providing hope to youth for the past nine years, in the finance, IT, facilities management, communications, education, and judicial departments. To apply for an internship, visit careers.choctawnation.com and search internship.

In 2021, Ambree Shelton was selected as the only intern for the Choctaw Nation’s Judicial Branch. She stated that the internship sparked a desire within her to uphold the law and help tribal members. According to Shelton, having a support system is essential.

We strive to live out the Chahta spirit of faith, family and culture. Let’s try to provide our youth with positive experiences and behaviors that will help guide them to become responsible adults, for generations to come.

Yakoke and God bless!
