Lewis Riley McAlvain was born April 19, 1881 to Polk McAlvain and Mary Choate McAlvain in Caston Precinct, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory.

His first wife was Miss Rosey Bell Howell, born in 1883, who bore him one son, Orin Earle McAlvain (also an original enrollee) on August 26, 1902 and dying shortly thereafter. His second wife was Miss Cans Ada Stacy, the daughter of

William Douglas Stacy and Josephine Sinor. Together they had Bessie McAlvain born in 1907 and dying in 1909; Neva Leon McAlvain (Bryan) born November 11, 1905 in sugar Loaf County, Choctaw Nation, who died June 7, 1993; Jewell McAlvain who was the wife of Harold Lloyd Wiggington and Harold Wilson, and Lee Roy McAlvain born in 1913 and passing away in 1973. Lewis was tragically killed in 1930 in Seminole, Oklahoma by a man for which he was trying to find a job. As he was walking with the man down the road, the stranger picked up a rock and hit him in the head thus ending his life.

His widow later married Robert Little.
