Newton Rudolph Harris Son of Walter C. and Effie O. Harris Submitted by: Juanita Mayes Harris

Newton Rudolph Harris born June 15, 1921 at Pleasant Hill, Oklahoma. He was the only child born to Walter C. and Effie O. Harris. In 1938 he went to the CCC Camp in Durango, Colorado and Kingman, Arizona. He married Juanita Mae on May 10, 1941. In 1942 he went to Tulsa and worked for Spartan Aircraft Company. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army Engineers. He took his basic training at Ft. Polk, LA. From there he went to Seaman School in Brooklyn, NY., then to Fort Belvoir, VA. From there he went to Fort Screven, GA., to deep-sea diving school. He was sent overseas and served in the Pacific. He returned to the United States in December 1945 from Japan. He lived in Tulsa until 1947, then returned to Idabel where he had his own business. He developed and built Memorial Heights and Harris Acres in Idabel. He built and operated Beavers Bend Marina on Broken Bow Lake for two years. He and Juanita have two children, Linda Kaye and Rudy Steve. They have three grandchildren: Kara Jones, Norris and Kristen and Brett Harris
