Voter Registration Cancellation and Documentation

Voluntary Cancellation by Tribal Member 

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma requires an original notarized statement to accommodate your request to cancel your own Voter Registration or cancel on behalf of a tribal member of which you have legal guardianship.  The services of a public notary need to be obtained prior to mailing your request to the Voter Registration Department. 

Once your request has been processed, your status will be recorded as a Non-Voter in our registry and your information will be withheld from the Voting List.  This will not affect your Tribal Membership or Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB).

Cancellation of Voter Registration for Deceased

A death certificate or obituary is needed to remove deceased voters from the Voter Registry.  In order to perform regular maintenance on the registry, the Voter Registration Database receives nightly updates from the CDIB/Tribal Membership Database in regards to deceased status.  Therefore, copies of death certificates and/or obituaries should be submitted to the CDIB/Tribal Membership Department in order to keep information up to date.

Cancellation of Voter Registration for Membership Status Changes 

No enrolled tribal member of another tribe or person who votes as a citizen or member of another tribe shall vote in elections of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.    

If you relinquish your Choctaw Nation Tribal Membership, or are dually enrolled with another tribe, your Voter Registration will also be cancelled.  In order to perform regular maintenance on the Voter Registry, the Voter Registration Database receives nightly updates from the CDIB/Tribal Membership Department in regards to membership status.
