Diabetes Prevention Program


About the Program

The Choctaw Nation Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a lifestyle change program to help participants prevent Type 2 Diabetes. The Choctaw Nation DPP is a year-long program. Sessions will be held once a week for 16 weeks, then twice a month for two months, and finally once a month for six months until the year is completed. The program will be group based with up to 12 people in a group and one lifestyle coach to guide and support you throughout the program. The lifestyle change program will be conducted via WebEx, a virtual meeting platform. This will allow more flexibility for participants. In this program, you will learn how to eat healthier in a realistic manner that fits your needs, how to get your physical activity level, up and how to manage the stress of everyday life. You will set goals for yourself, and with the help of your lifestyle coach and group support, you will reach your goals and be able to maintain them for a lifetime.


  • A BMI of 25
    and one of the following:
  • A history of gestational diabetes
  • An A1C of 5.7-6.4
  • A risk test score of 5 or higher
    (take the risk test to learn your score)

I have been a lifestyle coach for the National Diabetes Prevention Program since 2015 and a master trainer since 2018. I have worked in diabetes education and prevention since 2014. Diabetes prevention is important to me because of my own family history with Diabetes. I hope with this program we can prevent any future family members, friends or those in the community from developing this chronic condition. I'm very excited the Diabetes Prevention Program can reach many more individuals because of this virtual platform.

I have been a lifestyle coach for the Diabetes Prevention Program since 2018, and I've enjoyed working with community members as a health coach for the Choctaw Nation since 2005. Diabetes is a condition that is all around us in Oklahoma, and the first line of defense is prevention. I want to help you prevent diabetes and become the healthiest version of yourself. Together we will work on making healthy changes to your diet, activity level, and stress management that you will be able to sustain for a lifetime.
