The Choctaw language is a vital part of our culture and identity. The Choctaw Nation Language Department is committed to protecting and revitalizing our language through innovative programs that ensure it is passed on to future generations.
What You’ll Learn:
The Language Apprenticeship Program offers a unique, full-time learning opportunity that immerses participants in daily instruction. Apprentices work with Chahta speakers to build proficiency in Choctaw grammar structure, conversation and cultural understanding.
Program Details:
- 12-month program
- Full-time, temporary positions
- $20.00 per hour
- 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
Note: Positions are temporary and do not include benefits.
What to Expect:
- Daily in-person mentoring (3–4 hours with Chahta speakers)
- Structured curriculum
- Printed instructional materials
- Audio and video media resources
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be 18 or older
- Must possess a valid CDIB and proof of Choctaw Nation tribal membership
