Sovereignty

Sovereignty is the cornerstone of Tribal governance. Through treaties established with the United States as early as 1786, we are guaranteed certain rights and responsibilities to our land and our people.

Tribal sovereignty is the right and ability to govern ourselves as a people to support our community and future generations. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is committed to ensuring our rights as a sovereign nation are respected for the benefit of tribal members and the communities in our reservation.
