Research and Data Acquisition

The Research and Data Acquisition team manages water quality monitoring at over 50 sites throughout the Choctaw Nation Reservation. Comprehensive testing includes:

  • Laboratory analyses: E. coli, Total Phosphorus, Ortho-phosphorus, Total Nitrogen (Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite), Alkalinity, Hardness, Copper
  • Field measurements: Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, Conductivity, Chlorophyll, Turbidity, and Flow

In addition to routine monitoring, the team conducts targeted site investigations in response to concerns raised by community members and Tribal Leadership. Investigations utilize bioassessments that evaluate aquatic life and habitat health, offering critical insights into waterway conditions. These assessments support informed decision-making that is aligned with commitments under the Water Settlement Agreement.

Data acquisition focuses on rigorous review of collected data to deliver reliable, evidence-based information that empowers the Choctaw Nation to protect and manage vital water resources effectively.
