Our Purpose
The purpose of the Child Care Assistance Program is to increase the availability, affordability, and quality of child care services within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation. Federal funding is applied for annually by the Choctaw Nation in order to:
- Provide low-income families with the financial resources to find and afford quality child care for their children.
- Enhance the quality and increase the supply of child care for families.
- Provide parents with a broad range of options in addressing their child care needs.
- Strengthen the role of the family.
- Improve the quality of and coordination among child care programs and early child development programs.
- Increase the availability of early childhood development and before and after school care programs.
How We Are Funded
The Child Care Assistance Program is funded by a grant through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration for Children and Families.
Because none of our funding comes from the tribe, but through a federal grant, we must adhere to the federal rules and regulations that govern this grant in order to maintain our funding each year and to be able to provide child care services to eligible families.
Our Service Area
The service area of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma includes all territory within the tribes boundaries. The Choctaw Nation is bounded on the east by the State of Arkansas, on the south by the Red River, on the north by the South Canadian, Canadian and Arkansas Rivers, and the western boundary generally follows a line slightly west of Durant, then due north to the South Canadian River. The geographic area consists of the following counties: Atoka, Bryan, Choctaw, Coal, Haskell, Hughes (1/2), Latimer, Leflore, McCurtain, Pittsburg, and Pushmataha.

Components (FAQ)
Eligibility Component
Eligibility will be determined by a staff member based on the information you provide on your application for assistance. Eligibility is based on income, family size and other information.
Recertification Component
Every 12 months parents are required to recertify to determine if they are still eligible for assistance based on the information that is submitted to our office. Failure to submit the requested information in a timely manner will result in termination from the program, and a new application would need to be completed, and eligibility determined.
Monitoring Component
Each caregiver/provider that contracts with our program will be subject to at least one annual unannounced visit/inspection of their home or facility by a staff member from our office. These inspections are done in collaboration with the Oklahoma Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that Oklahoma Department of Health and Human Services requirements are being followed.
Improvement Grant Component
Providers contracting with our Program are allowed to apply for grants to improve the health, safety or quality of their facility. Grant amounts range from $1,000-$1,500. Must contract for a minimum of six months prior to application.
Resource and Referral Component
Our Program coordinates with the Oklahoma Child Care Resource & Referral Association at Southeastern Oklahoma State University to assist families with child care resources. We also collaborate with SOSU to produce a newsletter of helpful information to providers, and to assist with expenses and supplies for their resource center.
Training Component
Our Training & Events Coordinator coordinates training experiences for our providers as well as our CCA staff.
Events Component
Throughout the year the Training & Events Coordinator plans activities and events that are educational, fun, and informative for parents, providers, children, and our communities.
Health and Safety Component
Monitoring of daycare facilities and staff ensure state immunization and other health and safety procedures are maintained.
