Choctaw Nation Pharmacies provide pharmaceutical care to all eligible patients and maintains correct and proper records in accordance with state and federal regulations. The Pharmacy services are continually upgraded with emphasis on the rational, safe, and economic use of medications.
CNHSA Pharmacy Departments provide an appropriate supply of quality medications for all eligible patients in an effective and efficient manner. Pharmacists assist in the education of patients, staff, students, and other Services Continued 92 members of the health care team. The pharmacy departments are involved in the design, implementation, and oversight of medication use activities for all age groups of patients. The Pharmacy staff approach their work with the awareness that every aspect of pharmaceutical service has an impact on the outcome of all patients receiving medications. All aspects of this service impact patient care ranging from procurement, storage, control, compounding, dispensing, counseling, interventions, specialty clinic services, therapy management, and consults with providers to making quality performance improvements.
The following are included in the Pharmacy Scope of Service:
- Dispensing drugs, intravenous solutions, and supplies
- Monitoring drug therapy (e.g. for drug interactions and contraindications)
- Providing drug information
- Monthly unit drug inspections
- Dosing recommendations based on renal function
- Adverse drug reaction reporting and monitoring
- Education of staff and patients as appropriate
- Provision of IV admixture services
- Providing information on drug/drug and drug/food interactions
- Monitoring and inventory control of controlled substances
- Purchasing medications and supplies
- Controlling inventory on all medications
All the Choctaw Nation Pharmacies work as a united team to provide the best service possible to our patients. Several Choctaw Pharmacies have Specialty Clinics in Anticoagulation and Tobacco Cessation and in-depth medication counseling on a variety of disease states.
Most Choctaw Nation Pharmacies are open at least from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The Pharmacy located at the Choctaw Nation Health Care Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. A Clinical Pharmacist is available at the Choctaw Nation Health Care Center to fill emergency room prescriptions and provide inpatient services 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Pharmacy hours at outlying clinics vary by location; please call for more information.
The Refill Center, located in Poteau, Oklahoma has 11 total Pharmacists, 12 Pharmacy Technicians, and 5 Pharmacy Clerks, working from 7:00 to 5:30, five days per week.
Available to Choctaw Nation Employees and Dependents covered by CNO Health Insurance, with or without CDIB. Prescriptions from CNHSA, IHS, ER or private practice providers, even out of state providers. No Cost to participate, Co-Pays are waived, prescriptions are free. Prescriptions mailed, 90 Day supply of medications when prescribed by the provider. No Controlled Substances (Class II, III & IV Narcotics).
