Choctaw: HEROES
Health Education in Rural Oklahoma for Employment Success

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is a sovereign-land based, federally recognized Native American tribe located in the southeastern corner of Oklahoma. It encompasses approximately 10.5 counties in one of the most rural areas in the region. The Choctaw Nation is home to 48,113 Choctaw tribal members. Unfortunately, southeastern Oklahoma also has some of the poorest counties in the state with very sparse populations and an absence of major metropolitan areas. Low educational attainment and the financial struggles that coincide have proven to be a barrier for some of our tribal members.

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma strongly believes education is an integral part of a secure financial future for our tribal members. Careers in healthcare are in critical need in Oklahoma.

Our Mission: To assist Choctaw tribal members who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare by providing support, funding, educational, and career opportunities.

Careers in the healthcare field are currently some of the most critically needed in the state of Oklahoma. Choctaw: HEROES proposes a program that will directly address the need to increase educational attainment among Choctaws, which will then lead to long-term employment and incomes that better the lives of tribal members within the Choctaw Nation.
