CAHPS Patient Surveys

Choctaw Nation Health Services Authority (CNHSA) participate in two CAHPS surveys. The HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems) survey is the first national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care. The survey contains 27 questions about your recent hospital stay. 18 of those questions address critical aspects of your hospital experience including communication with nurses and physicians, responsiveness of hospital staff, cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, pain management, communication about medications, discharge information, overall rating of hospital and whether you would recommend the hospital. HCAHPS allows hospitals to compare themselves to other hospitals. Patients can view the hospital results via the “Hospital Compare” website at:

The second CAHPS survey CNHSA participates in is the OAS CAHPS (Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems). The survey asks patients to rate their experience with their outpatient surgery or diagnostic procedure in hospital-based outpatient surgery departments and freestanding ambulatory surgery centers.

Adult patients meeting the CAHPS eligibility guidelines will be mailed a survey between 48 hours and six weeks following their discharge. CNHSA encourages patients to complete and return these surveys. A return postage paid envelope is provided with the survey. Your response is confidential as there is no patient identifying information on the survey. Your continued care at our facility will not be affected by the way you answer your questions.
