The Transportation Improvement Program began in 1993. It is a BIA program funded by the U. S. Department of Transportation. The function of this program is to inventory the existing roads, find roads and bridges which need building or improving and prioritize them for funding in accordance with the Indian Reservation Roads provision of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act.
