Eliza Jane Jennings York lapsed into unconsciousness and finally into rest on December 6, 1994. She was preceded in death by a son, James (Cochrell) Prewit.
She was born in 1904 and spent much of her early years in Canadian, Oklahoma where her Indian land is now under water at the Arrowhead Resort Location.
After the death of Eliza’s father, James C. Jennings, the son of Richard Jennings, she moved to Ada with her mother, Leona Metcalf who had married Rev. Luther Prewit and her two sisters, Donnie and Ludie, Eliza became known to many for her pies and her beautiful seamstress talent. While her six grandchildren saw her as a brave, gun toting grandma that could shoot a possum between the eyes although she was legally blind for the last 15 years.
In Ada, Eliza met and married a musician and accountant, Walter Daniel York, the son of pioneer evangelists Rev.’s Dan and Dolly York.
Eliz Jane was very proud of being a Choctaw Indian.
For the last 10 years Eliza (called Baye) had her daughter live with her at the Byng Oklahoma oak and park-like country estate where she lived for over 50 years.
She is survived by Richadeen Brown York, a nurse in Ada Oklahoma and Thurnace York Ed. D., D.D. of Tracy California where he and his wife V. Ethely Sutton York Ed.D are establishing a Christian grade school and counseling center.
Her funeral was conducted by her son, a recording artist and television personality and with the nationally known concert organist and pianist, Wally Brown. A large number of friends and family gathered for her Christian Celebration Concert. She was entombed in the family cemetery in Wolf Oklahoma alongside her husband and other family members.

Henry Radford York, 75, of Antlers passed away March 9, 2009, in Paris. He was born February 1, 1934, in Honey Grove, Texas, the son of Harley Steven York and Zennie Jane Cochnauer York. He lived most of his life in Hugo.
Radford was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired machinest. He loved to fish and hunt, especially for squirrels, and enjoyed reading Western books.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth York; two sisters, Bertha Maxwell and Bertie Shelton; and three brothers, Roscoe York, Franklin York and William S. York.
Survivors include a sister, Reatha Freeman of Hugo; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Richadeen York passed away on April 10, 2003 in Green Valley, Arizona. She was a decendent of the 1907 Choctaw enrollees Eliza Jane Jennings York, her mother; James C. Jennings, her grandfather, and Richard P. Jennings, her great-grandfather. She was proud of her Choctaw heritage.
Richadeen York, formerly Brown, took leave from her successful nursing profession and retired to Byng, a thriving community north of Ada, Oklahoma, to be with her aging mother, after the death of her mother, after the death of her father, Walter Daniel York, the oldest of historic pioneers Rev. Williams Daniel York and Rev. Dorthulia Fagan York.
The elder York’s family of musicians and singers set the place for Richadeen, her brother, Thurnace, and her father, Walter, who continued to share their musical talents in Oklahoma churches and community gatherings. Friends always loved to hear Deen’s” angelic soprano voice. Her face would seem to light up as she would sing “Amazing Grace” and other old hymns. Last fall Thurnace made a special visit to Deen’s home to sing and remember while she was in better health. In April on learning of her stroke he flew from Danville , Virginia to sit by her side in the hospital.
