Rufus Clark Spring, 96, of Hugo, Oklahoma, passed away July 18, 2004, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital, Hugo. He was born April 28, 1908, in Hugo, the son of John and Dora (Elrod) Spring.

A farmer, Mr. Spring lived all of his life in Hugo. He married Lorene Mae Elkins high up on a little hill on the east side of Hugo on September 13, 1941.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Houston Scoot Springs; one sister, Susie Calder; seven half-brothers, Christopher Springs, Ike Springs, Louis Springs, Ben Springs, Eli Springs, John Springs Jr. and Jackson Springs, and two half-sisters, Melinda Springs and Maude Springs.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene, of Hugo; two daughters, Sue Roebuck of Hugo and Shirley Cummings of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Angie Cooke and husband, Randy, Annette Upton and husband, Mark, Patty Payne and husband, Steve, and Amanda Whitlow and husband, Kent, all of Hugo, Tommy Cummings and wife, Rena, of Dean, Texas, and Michael Cummings of Tecumseh; nine great-grandchildren, Jeffery and Taylor Payne, Anthony and Amber Upton, Spencer Cooke, Elizabeth and Lillabeth Whitlow, Jessica Cummings, and Tawny Cummings; a sister, Mary Ethel Bug Wallace, and many other relatives and friends.
