Graveside services for Norman resident Melvin Mitchell Springs, 61, were held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Berkley officiating. Mr. Springs died Sunday, Jan. 27, at Norman. The son of Issac and Cordelia Springs, he was born Aug. 28, 1921, at Hugo, where he would later marry his wife, Jauenthia Williams. She was a former Goodland student. A 40 year resident of Norman, Mr. Springs was a veteran of the United Stated Army and a member of Alameda Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Glasco, Mr. Springs is survived by his wife, Jauenthia of the home; two sons, Danny and Doyle, both of Norman; one daughter, Marti Ayers of Bristow; four sisters, Jessie Clark of Durant, and Ruby Adams, Josephine Martin and Lucille Parks, all of Oklahoma City; one brother, Alvin Springs of Choctaw; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Len Pelfrey, Roy Kelly and Terry, Lynn, Dewayne and Marvin Williams served as bearers. Honorary bearers were Wayne Joy, Vernon Boyer, Ken Coker and Ernest Moore. Jauenthia Williams Springs was a former Goodland student. R Springs’ Aunt Susie and Uncle Bud are long time employees of Goodland.
