Janie Armstrong Smith was born on December 19,1903 in Atoka Indian Territory an passed away on September 26, 1997 in Mustang, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Lewis William Armstrong and Eliza Jacobs Armstrong. She was an original enrollee of the Choctaw Nation and was formerly a manager of a boarding house.

She was married to Ben Levi Smith in Coalgate.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Lewis and Eliza Armstrong and three brothers, Edmond Buck Armstrong, Aaron H Armstrong and William Bill H Armstrong.

Survivors include two sisters, Opal Berci of Yucaipa, California and Hildred Marlow of Atoka Oklahoma; three brothers, Sherman Armstrong of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Virgil Armstrong of Kirkland, Washington, and Fred Armstrong of Atoka; numerous niece, nephews great and great-great-nieces and nephews and lost of friends who were counter as her extended family
