Jack Jason Shivery, 23, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away Monday May, 22, 2000 in Jacksonville. He was born August 18, 1976 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Harry and Michele Shivery.

He had been a senior at the University of Oklahoma; was a 3rd degree black belt in Karate and a certified scuba diver. Jack began competing as a marial artist at the age of five years old. An example of Jack’s generosity was displayed in 1996 when he donated over 200 of his trophies to help a Dojo(karate training facility) in their effort to hold a tournament.

He was featured in several newspapers and magazines. While in high school he competed as a member of the Memphis All Stars” karate team. In 1984 he placed third in the National Finals and in 1998 he ranked fifth in the world by the NBL as a Featherweight. He was a naturalist and cared very much for the plight of animals. Jack was a beloved son and a caring friend.

Survivors include his parents both of Jacksonville; grandmother Martha E. Shivery of Tulsa Oklahoma; grandmother Nancy E. Mendenhall of Tulsa; aunts April R. Horton of Sand Springs Oregon and Nora G. Grammer of Broken Arrow Oklahoma; uncles Michael E. Mendenhall of Cleveland Oklahoma and many caring friends and relatives.
