Hampton was married to Ruth (Bully) Polk on May 23, 1966 in Durant, Oklahoma. He worked as a piano tuner. He was a member of the Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church; he was also a Lay Speaker for the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Annie Polk and his son, Darrell Polk who passed away in 1995.

Survivors include his wife Ruth, two daughters, Lesha Polk of Durant, Oklahoma, Julie Ann Polk of Bennington; one brother, Dick Polk of Bennington; one sister, Sue Thompson of Wright City, Oklahoma and one grand-daughter, Jessica Polk of Bennington.
