Florene G. Harrison Ponder, 93, of Hoyt passed away July 17, 2008, in Stigler. She was born November 8, 1914, in Whitefield , Oklahoma , to Ben and Hattie Tackett Harrison.

Florene was a member of the Homemakers Club and a past member of the Eastern Star. She was the postmaster in Hoyt and also a postal clerk in Tulsa . She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church . She was the niece of William H. Harrison, the 22nd chief of the Choctaw Nation.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Ponder Sr.; two sons, Carl Ponder Jr. and Timothy Harrison Ponder; and two brothers, William H. Harrison and Benjamin F. Harrison.

Florene is survived by two daughters, Patricia Harrison Ponder of Hoyt and Gwendolyn Gay Ponder Partney and husband Leon of Tulsa; son, Michael Ponder and wife Charlotte of Hoyt; sister, Lue Harrison Haines of Lindsay; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchildren.
