Viola S. Melton, 92, of Eufaula passed away on December 1, 2006, at the Wellington Hills Nursing Home. She was born on July 19, 1914, in Smithville to Jerry and Rosie Nell Mayabee Samuel.

Viola married Chester Melton in 1941 in Oklahoma. She loved being a housewife and mother. She was an outdoor person who loved fishing, making a garden, raising children, and picking up stray dogs. We could not pass a lost dog without picking it up and bringing it home. She was great at cooking chicken, the Colonel had nothing on her. She was a great mother and friend who will be missed so very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Wesley, Albert, Gilbert and Jerry Samuels; and one sister, Flora Lee Adams.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Louise Melton of Eufaula; one sister, Kathryn Thorpe of Hugo; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
