Sylvia (Raleigh) McFall
Maiden Name: Raleigh
Sylvia Dean (Raleigh) Mize McFall, born in LeFlore, Oklahoma, on January 11, 1928 to Jim and Irene (McCann) Raleigh, went to Heaven on April 8, 1994 following an automobile accident in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Sylvia grew up in Latimer and Adair Counties with brothers Jake, Paul, Jennings, and Earl Raleigh, and sisters Elizabeth Watkins, Marilyn Keith, and Bonnie Vickers. She attended Denman & Chalk Bluff Schools, and Stilwell High School.
In 1944, Sylvia married Riley Mize, and they made their home in Tulsa until 1967 when they moved to Oklahoma City. They have eight children including five daughters, Carol Morgan Spinks, Linda Robinson, Candace Cook Dudek, Pamela McCarty, and Heather Bellows; and three sons, Clark, Shawn, and Thane Mize; five grandchildren, Blayne Cook, Amy Cook Brewer, Samantha and Lucas Mize, and Hannah McCarty; and one great-granddaughter, Leah Brewer.
Sylvia was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Tulsa and Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. She often was awarded on Mother’s Day for having the most children in church. She was always an untiring Christian example.
She was Tulsa’s Top Avon Sales Representative four consecutive years in the 1960’s. Later she managed a ladies’ clothing store in Oklahoma City and a children’s clothing store in Edmond. But she especially enjoyed caring for children in her Edmond home, including grandchildren Hannah, Samantha and Lucas, as well as Jenna and Kristin Schwarz who became like part of her family.
In 1979, Sylvia married Harold Gene McFall. They enjoyed making their home in Edmond, where many memorable family gatherings were held, especially on holidays.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband. Her untimely departure came shortly before the marriage of her youngest daughter Heather. Sylvia is survived by her husband Gene, her beloved children and grandchildren, her siblings, her stepmother Nettie Raleigh, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless close friends.
Sylvia’s service was held at Quail Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Graves officiating. Pallbearers included her sons, Clark, Shawn, and Thane Mize, and her sons-in-law, Jim Spinks, Marvin Robinson, Carl Dudek, Jack McCarty, and David Bellows. Burial was at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City.
