Joel Burrell McGuire, of Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma, was born on January 16, 1904 in Utica, Indian Territory to Emery Ottie and Carrie Whittle McGuire and passed away on April 27, 1997 in Oklahoma City at the age of 93 years. He was an original enrollee of the Choctaw Nation.

J.B. grew up and attended school in Joy, Oklahoma. He worked as a baker for the Sulphur School for the Deaf prior to moving to California in 1941.he moved back to Paul’s Valley in 1985.

He enjoyed dominoes, checkers and was an avid baseball fan. His favorite teams were the L.A. Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. J.B. was a very kind and good-hearted man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Imie in 1993; one son, Burl Gene McGuire; one daughter, Betty J Mogenson; three brothers, Emery Willis, John Lewis and Taft Theodore and two sisters, Isie May Hines and Delta Ada McGuire.

Survivors include his two sons, Bobby Lee McGuire and his wife, Marcia of Montclair, California and Jimmy Dale McGuire and his wife, Susan of Palm Springs, California; one sister, Thelma Grace Russell of Sulphur, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews
