James Robert McLauglhin, 57, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on June 2, 2008 at Mercy General Hospital Sacramento, California. He was born November 4, 1950 in Spokane , Washington to James and Henrietta McLaughlin.

He served the in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. While boarding the plane to Vietnam , the line was stopped and his orders changed to being stationed in Alaska . After serving in the Army, he moved to Seattle , Washington , where he attended electrician’s school. When living in Washington , he was in the Reserves and also served in the National Guard. In 1998, he contracted kidney disease and in 2003 was placed on dialysis. James had a lifelong passion for running and ran in many marathons. Even three weeks before his passing, he was still doing mild workouts on his elliptical strider and no matter how ill he felt he always maintained a positive attitude.

He is preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Glen Burk-ham; brother, Harvey Rice, Jr., and sister, Catherine Wascom.

He is survived by his mother, Henrietta Burkham of Sacramento; sisters, Patricia Bublitz of Michigan, Mary Street of Louisiana, Glenna Rhoby of Shelter Cove, Vickie Johanssen of Auburn, Carol McLaughlin and Pamela Klock of Sacrament; and brother, Leslie Burkham of Las Vegas.
