Raymond Lewis Landreth, 62, of Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away September 18, 2003 at Carlsbad Medical Center. He was born December 15, 1940 in Ada, Oklahoma.

As a youth, Ray overcame a birth disability and went on to ride a bike with casts on both legs and to letter in baseball. He graduated as valedictorian from Fitzhugh High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from East Central University in Ada. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Missouri at Rolla.

Following graduation, he moved to Carlsbad and on December 24, 1965, he married Patricia Fincher at Carlsbad Bible Church. He taught mathematics and coached baseball, football, and wresling at Carlsbad Mid High and Carlsbad Senior High School Schools for 32 years. He also taught mathematics part-time at New Mexico State University-Carlsbad for 18 years. He was always willing to help any ballplayer with academics and, over the years, he had coached many successfull players who went on to play in college or professionally. He retired from teaching in 1996 but continued coaching baseball part-time each spring through May of 2003. He was an avid bow hunter and enjoyed camping and hunting. Mr. L515,George A. Michie Jr.”
