Jonsey J. Jones, 81, passed away February 28, 2005, in Healdton, Oklahoma. He was born August 5, 1923, in Noble, Oklahoma, to Jess Edward and Mary E. (Roberts) Jones.
Jonsey, a World War II Navy veteran, served aboard the USS Pennsylvania and the USS Burleson in the South Pacific. He piloted a gig and personally escorted Admiral Nimitz from ship to ship. Jonsey earned the rank of Boatswain Mate 2nd Class and was honorably discharged on December 24, 1945.
Jonsey was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and is noted for his Native American beadwork and his native dancing. He and his wife, Edna, were avid participants in many powwows throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico and followed the powwow circuit for more than ten years.
