Sophina Hicks, 96, of Frederick passed away January 31, 2007, in Frederick. She was born on November 25, 1910, in Eagletown to Quitman and Timesy Wall Ashalintubby.

She attended schools at Chilocco Indian Schools in southeast Oklahoma. She married Laymon C. Hicks on March 23, 1932, in Mena, Polk County, Arkansas. They moved to Frederick in November of 1952 from Smithville. When she was young, she worked as a caregiver providing care for the elderly. She was a homemaker and loved flowers and her garden, but most importantly, loved spoiling her grandchildren. She was very active in her church work as a member of the First Assembly of God, Frederick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laymon Hicks, on October 3, 1996; a daughter, Virginia Hicks; three sisters, Irene Blueye, Lylie Going and Silis Vanderver; a brother, Benjamin Bohannon; and two grandsons, Paul and Degan Dennis.

Survivors include her son, Houston Hicks, and wife Norma of Frederick; three daughters, Rena Cornelius and husband Bill of Muskogee; Mary Teague and husband Charlie and Dora Williams, all of Frederick; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren.
