George M. Goins, 88, of Stigler, Oklahoma, passed away May 23, 2004, in Stigler. He was born April 4, 1916, in Stigler to William and Ada (Baker) Goins. He grew up in Stigler and graduated with the Class of 1935.

He and Tena Owens were married on June 29, 1935, in Stigler. They made their home in San Jose, California, for 39 years where he worked as a fitter-welder for Westinghouse until his retirement.

He and his wife toured with an Art Guild for three years across the country. He was an award-winning ballroom dancer and made two appearances on the Lawrence Welk Show by winning a dance competition.

They made their home in Stigler in the early 1970s where he enjoyed fishing, gardening and yard work. He snowbirded in Florida in the winter, was an accomplished metal sculptor and a member of the Stigler First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bessie Dun-can of Stigler; four brothers, Taze and Roy Goins of Stigler, Harry Goins of Bakersfield, California, and Ed Goins of Mariposa, California.

Survivors include his wife, Tena, of the home; five nieces, Susy Adcock of Stigler, Mary Gardner of Ramona, Ada Belle Nickell of Lake Isabella, California, Mary Beth Gilliam of Bakersfield, California, and Carolyn Parche of Mansfield, Texas; three nephews, Gary Goins of Whitefield, Oklahoma, Boyd Goins of Benton, Arkansas, and Billy Goins of Hemet, California; several cousins; many great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
