Juanita Baker was born on March 19, 1926 to the Rev. Simon and Mary Amos Billy at Broken Bow, Oklahoma. She passed away on November 16, 1999 in Tulsa, Oklahoma after living her entire life in McCurtain County. Juanita married Aaron Baker 56 years ago on September 4, 1943 and they made their home in Battiest. They had eight children.

Prior to moving to Tulsa for health reasons, Juanita was a member of the Battiest Baptist Church. Soon after her move to Tulsa she transferred her membership to the Belview Baptist Church in Tulsa where she sang in the choir and made many new friends.

To her family and friends she will be remembered for her smile, her christian faith , her positive attitude, her personality and always having a kind word for everyone she met. She will be remembered by many for her black berry cobbler, fried pies and her banaha”.
