The Choctaw Nation has been a part of Oklahoma since before statehood and has long been integrated into the social and community fabric of the 10- ½ counties that make up their territory and the state of Oklahoma. In 2009 the tribe gave more than $3 million to local charities, churches, non-profit organizations and public safety agencies throughout the 10 ½ counties. Among its largest donations, the tribe gave $1.9 million and three acres of land to construct a new Emergency Response Complex in Durant and $1 million to help create the University of Oklahoma Diabetes Center. But it also gives grants of $5,000 annually to each police, fire and sheriff’s station within the Nation’s boundaries and donations of all sizes to scores of non-profit and charitable groups in Southeast Oklahoma. Last year the U.S. Defense Department gave the tribe its highest civilian award for support of our troops abroad for the tribe’s program that sent thousands of care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Groups which wish to apply for donations or grants can fill out an application located in the “Quick Links” section at the bottom right of this page.
