jolly jonathan jones m. ada kirkendall>henry jones b. 1897 OK/IT
do you have his social security application and his death certificate? his delayed birth certificate? anyone who passed away after 1/1/1937 has a social security application on file. people submitted delayed birth certificates if they didn’t have a birth certificate, to show proof of age.
if jolly jonathan jones was in texas, he might have been mississippi chocatw or with a texas tribe.
you don’t say how you know who his parents were, what documents you already have.
these are some dawes records. you should ask the tribe for a copy of the enrollment application and census card. see the link for genealogy advocate.

this appears to be your family:
Source Citation: Year: 1910; Census Place: Justice Precinct 4, Callahan, Texas; Roll T624_1534; Page: 4A; Enumeration District: 11; Image: 965.
father was b. TX, his parents were b. MS
mother was b. TX, her father b. TX, mother b. LA.
since her mother was b. in louisiana, you should also look at the jena choctaw tribe.
children b. OK.
Source Citation: Year: 1900; Census Place: Township 8, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory; Roll T623_1849; Enumeration District: 153.
you need an exact birthdate for henry. i would suggest his death certificate, social security application, a world war I draft card or a delayed birth certificate,, or the social security death index listing if he passed away after 1963.
genealogists use names, dates, locations, children and spouses to match records. if you have a common surname, you need to give more information rather thann less. if you post about women, it is helpful to include the maiden name and the married name and designate which one is the maiden name.
first of all, heritage and tribal enrollment are two different things. many times natives didn’t apply for enrollment because 1) they didn’t qualify, 2) they were philosophically opposed to enrollment, 3) they didn’t have documentation, or 4) they were mississippi choctaw and their ancestor had accepted land or benefits in lieu of tribal enrollment.
the dawes roll was taken 1896-1906, so you should trace your ancestors down to that time period. mostly, they had to be living in oklahoma by that time and agree to live there permanently.
if the name is common, you may find too many possible records.
the tribe has an excellent information to help you. it is found under genealogy advocacy.
