Are decendants of Choctaw Freedmen who are listed on the Dawes roll able to apply for tribal enrollment with Choctaw Nation?

If they have all film documents, copy of tribal card and roll#, and documents showing direct relation to enrollee listed on the Choctaw Freedmen Dawes roll who was born in Indian Territory and also their mother listed on Dawes roll and enrollment#?

i don’t know the answer to this question. you should probably speak to the tribe directly.

the tribe has an excellent information to help you. it is found under genealogy advocacy.

Please let everyone here know if you find out an answer to this. I’m sure there are a number of people who are wondering this same thing.

freedmen info:
You can ONLY apply for Choctaw Nation Membership, AFTER you

have obtained a CDIB card proving your Choctaw Blood lineage

to a direct ancestor who actually enrolled, BY BLOOD. Freedmen

DID NOT enroll By Blood. When US Congress closed the Final

Dawes Commission Rolls, there were no provisions granting

Freedmen any benefits after the Dawes Commission closed. The

tribe Constitution states BY BLOOD. however, the documents

(application, census card and testimony) may help you find out

more about your heritage.
