Does anyone have information on a chief named General George Culvert from the early 1800’s? I recently discovered an obituary for him from Jan 1840 stating he was head chief of the Choctaw nation and Rev War vet and that he died in Nov 1830 and was buried with full military honors at Fort Towson. I added him to Find A Grave, but would like to honor him with a better bio. regards Dave

i don’t see a mention of him relating to the choctaw but this doesn’t particularly surprise me. native languages were oral traditions. perhaps the only things you can find were what the government wrote.
war department records, military records and fort records are at NARA try the fort worth, TX office.

the oklahoma historical society might have some information, since they took over fort towson.
