Spelled various ways as Mogulusha, Mogolusha, Imoklasha, Limoklasha, Itimoklasha – the last two suggested by Dr. Ian Thompson of Choctaw Nation Historical Preservation as being the oldest while Mogolusha seems to be the most common in gov’t documents. The name refers to two places in MS, one designated as “old.” The name also refers to a clan and means “the people are there.” These were the first group of people who formed the Choctaw tribe or confederacy. They always lived nearer the burial mound, Nanih Waiya than other groups of Choctaws. Some of my ancestors were Imoklashas. They lived in what is now Neshoba Co. MS.
