Choctaw who fathered child with DANA LOVE RUSSELL in 1919

My mother was fathered by a Choctaw, and born May 21, 1919, either on one of the reservations, or in Wichita CO TX or in Tillman County OK. No one in family knows who this man was/is and I’m seeking names. Evidently, they did not marry, as she married Mark Dearman later, and he raised my mom as his own. It’s important to me and my family to now know the name of my grandfather. If someone knows something about what happened in 1918-19 with this couple, please post. They did live in both TX and OK, during this time and it was said my grandmother, Dana Russell, lived on a Choctaw reservation for a time. I do not know if they were in love or if something else happened. She had brothers and sisters named Ratch, Cecil, Frank and Susie Russell. I want the truth if it’s still out there. Please help if you know anything about any of these people

you should start with the birth certificate or delayed birth certificate, her social security application. maybe she knew her father’s name.

you should probably try to find newspaper mentions of her mother and grandmother around the time that she was born. you can do this through interlibrary loan. see your local public library for this information.
are her brothers and sisters older or younger than she was? if they were older, maybe they have more information in records.

i think there were census records on another thread. you should try to look at the census records 1900-1930. the 1940 census records will be publicly available in 2012.

you can get an obituary through the interlibrary loan program as well.
do you have her marriage license.

you should review the texas tribes also. look at the geographic locations.

Thank you. I do have delayed birth certf but it lists Mark Dearman as father. He was only 16 when mom was born and Mother’s cousin in TX told me that the father of my mom was a Choctaw man and that my grandfather, Mark Dearman, adopted her as a young child. This is the secret Sonya, my cousin, once removed is writing about in this forum. I hope you are still on here, Sonya, and tell Dana (mom) what we’ve learned.

Also, I did get the final rolls index, but now have no name to look for. So, if I can ever get the name of this man, I’ll try to find and meet some more of my family.

Because they hid these facts from us their whole lives, there seems to be no record of their marriage. (Mark Dearman and Dana Love Russell) Unless some of the cousins on the Dearman side do have it. But I think it was hidden from us so we would not know the truth. Post a reply, Sonja, if you should know ANYthing!
