He is on the Dawes Roll as #5702. I notice that he had received an allotment (I believe that was a money payment?), and there was some question of ownership of a stand of timber which he was apparently expecting to receive. The commission questioned him closely about whether he had really been staying in Indian Territory all that time, and later called his application “doubtful”. They eventually approved it, much later.
What would have happened to him if they had rejected the application? I assume he would have been denied citizenship in the Choctaw Nation. Would he have had to repay the allotment he got? How much money would that have been? Or was it an allotment of property? Would he have had to give it back?
