Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

My grandfather was born in Hugo OK in 1919 and he never would talk about those years at the reservation. I was told by other family members it was so bad and he would never tell me or anyone else. Can anyone tell me what was happening to the children and familys living during the early 1900’s on the reservation. I would like to understand the history more . Please send any information you can.
