Still, researching three 1921 oil painting from Halstead Kansas. Interaction with the US government increased with the establishment of the Hopi reservation in 1882. Missionary efforts intensified and Hopi children were kidnapped from their homes and forced to attend industrial farm school orphanages far from home, exposing them to new cultural influences. Looking at the paintings I see what seems to be an adobe home? Halstead had a Mennonite industrial farm school orphanage and contracted with government and sold children for domestic and farm labor. Ignore the German name and look at the art. My opinion; Indian orphan in touch with nature.
