My Great grandfather, Thomas Surguy, served in the Indian Home Guard during the civil war. Incase you’ve never heard of The Indian Home Guard, it was union regiments formed in Kansas, made up of warriors (soldiers) from the Five Civilized Tribes. Most had sided with the south, but some fled to Kansas, and were organized to fight in Oklahoma and Arkansas. The rosters are full of great names, it’s a great research tool, and easy to find on google. My Great grandfather and his brother, John Surguy, both served in the IHG, and show up on the pension roles, with their wives, Ellen M. (Bost) and Frances K. (Bost), sisters from Arkansas. 1870 census shows them at the Choctaw Nation.
