Indian Child Welfare

In Accordance with the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), our Indian Child WElfare program works on behalf of our Choctaw children and thier families. Our social workers join with state workers and the courts in working to insure safe and healthy homes for the children. This includes finding Choctaw foster and adoptive homes to prevent placement in non-Indian homes. The Indian Child Welfare program in an advocate for residents in the 10 1/2 counties and serves Choctaws nationwide
ICW offices are located in Durant, Hugo, Idabel, Talihina, and Atoka.

Family Violence

This program assists Choctaw families who have been in a domestice violence situation. The Family Violence program in designed to help women and children escape a dangerous home life. This program can assist with outreach, prevention, counseling, transportation needs, and shelter. To qualify for this program one must reside within the 10 1/2 counties of the Choctaw Nation, be n a domestic violence situation (which may consist of physical, sexual, verbal fo emotional abuse), and must have a CDIB card. One must complete a domestic violence intake and one counseling session. Family Violence workers are lcoated in Talihina, Hugo, Idabel, and Durant.

Family Preservaton

This is a preventative service which promotes family strength, stability, parental functions, and the protection of children. The program in designed to prevent family disruption and out-of-home placement by meeting the needs of a family in times of crisis. The goal is to empower these familes to provide adequate and safe care for their children by identifying their strenghts, assisting them to find solutions, and supporting self-reliance through short-term services in the home. Services should be provided for a period of approximately 90 days and should not exceed six months. There may be a one time assistance due to a sudden crisis situation. The program services the 10 1/2 counties of Choctaw Nation and serves all federally recognized tribes. There are offices located in Durant, Atoka, Hugo and Idabel.
