The Choctaw Nation was approved by the United States Department of Agriculture to start the Food Distribution Program in February, 1984. The first month of distribution, approximately 150 Indians received commodities. The program is now serving over 5,500 Indians per month throughout the l0-l/2 counties of the Choctaw Nation.
Each participant of the program receives approximately 66 food items totaling 80 pounds per person. Guidelines for participation are:
One resident per household (can be any age) is required to have a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) card.
Social security numbers and cards are required for all household members.
Verification of income is required; a copy of payroll check, or if you are unemployed, a card from the Employment Office will be needed.
Verification of residence is required. A utility bill or rent receipt with your name and address on it will suffice.
