Sam Eli Davis, 20, passed away December 10, 1999. Sam was born March 22, 1979 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Romona (Sam) and Dean Davis. He lived in Hugo, all his life and was a member of the FFA, Boy Scouts of America and High Hill Methodist Church.
As a boy, Sam looked forward to attending Bertram Bobb's Christian Indian Children's Camp every summer. He also played baseball as soon as he got old enough. In high school, Sam played baseball, golf and football.
He took great pride in his team. He won many honors through his school days but the "Fighting Buffalo Award" he received was of special importance. This was given by the coaches for the ideal player with the biggest heart, best values and best school spirit.
Sam graduated from Hugo High School in 1998 and was currently a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He was studying to be a physical therapist.
Sam was very well-known in the area. He had a reputation for helping people then going on his way without ever expecting thanks. He had a wonderful, gentle spirit and a kind, loving heart. He will be truly missed by family and friends every day.
Survivors include his mother, Ramona White Tobacco of Hugo, his father, Dean Davis of Hugo; a brother, Marlin Davis, who is stationed in Korea, and a sister, Winona Davis of Hugo. Grandparents include Virginia Sam of Soper, Oklahoma and the late Leonard Sam, Hazel and Floyd Davis of Hugo. Aunts and uncles include Cindi and Burl Baker of Paris, Texas, Pam and Steve Hunt of Antlers, Oklahoma, Gordon Sam of Dallas, Texas, Virginia and Jeff Jones of Kerrville, Texas, Sue and Rick Stephens of Boswell, Oklahoma, Cami and Troy Davis of Hugo, and Gina and Mark Hammond of Soper. Also, 13 cousins. Among the younger cousins, Sam was the "hero". He had great patience with them.
Sam was greatly loved, deeply appreciated and will be missed forever more. In Sam's memory a scholarship fund has been set up. For further information, please contact any of the family.
